The regional manifestation of the Urban Harappan phase in Saurashtra is popularly known as Sorath Harappan period. The Sorath Harappan can be placed between 2600 – 1700 BC. In the Sorath Harappan, the vessel shapes were much alike the Harappans in the Sindh region. The classic black-on-red painting style is absent in them. Until recently, Sorath Harappan sites were considered Late Harappan, later scholars such as G. L. Possehl divided the sites as Sorath Harappan and Late Sorath Harappan Ceramics.
