This is a pillar recovered from the backyard of Vilwamangalam Sree Krishna Temple, Thiruvananthapuram. It might have supported the roof of the mandapa of an old temple. Pillars are supportive elements in temple architecture. They are occasionally used for decorative purposes. This is a segmented monolithic pillar with low relief carvings of animals like elephant, dog, horse, boar, lion, birds, snake charmer etc. besides flowers and symbols on three square segments.
